We were recently at Le Singe, formerly known as Le Singe Vert in Chelsea, to meet Jodi's cousin Rebecca for brunch. It has been a while that I had that place on my radar and it was a good opportunity to try it. The dining room definitely had the feel of a French brasserie, as did the menu. We started our meal by sharing their French toast casserole, that is a crème brulée flavored baked French toast with caramelized apples, topped with crème fraîche. We added some maple sugar and that was perfect: delicious, it was caramelized on top, the best part in fact.

For our entrees, Jodi ordered an omelet with tomato, cheddar and spinach, that was just ok.

She also got a French lemonade from Effervé:

And Rebecca the Croque Monsieur, that was, with the tartare, recommended on Yelp! and that looked delicious with its Swiss cheese gratiné on top.

But on my side, I decided to order the second Yelp! recommendation (although I should mention that my choice was made well before): I ordered the steak tartare. Made with filet mignon cut with a knife, it was made with a spicy cocktail sauce and topped with a quail yolk. When they asked me if I wanted the large portion I thought they were proposing an appetizer and an entree size and, after picking the latter, I was surprised to see such a big portion...It was really good, with a very slight kick, but too large for me. It was served with delicious fries that were crispy and a salad for a healthy note.

It was very good and I wish I had some space to order dessert. I definitely want to go back to Le Singe to try their escargots, as well as their steak frites or duck breast (maybe both?).
